Coyote Chase Trail Run: The 2014 Recap

On Saturday morning, nearly two hundred runners capped off the NOLA Trail Run Series in City Park. The Coyote Chase Trail Run was the shortest race in the series; however, those two miles included some of the biggest challenges put before participants.

TUNESday: "Lay Me Down" by Avicii

A perk of getting back in to marathon shape is getting back in to a wardrobe that hasn't fit in months. I literally have an entire section of my closet filled with attire waiting to be welcomed back in rotation. However, that doesn't keep me from rewarding myself with the addition of new items that catch my eye. It's little things like a new fitted shirt that keep me motivated to train and put in the work.

Last Saturday evening's Crescent Connection Bridge Run capped off the 2014 edition of the Louisiana Bridge Run Series. At the conclusion of that race, participants who had taken on the Luling, Huey P. Long and Crescent City Connection Bridges were rewarded for their efforts. They were bestowed this fancy medal to the left.

Father's Day Race: The 2014 Recap

A quick race calls for a quick re-cap, and the 2 mile New Orleans Track Club event celebrating Father's Day was just that. This past weekend brought together generations of NOLA runners for a tradition twelve years in the making.

TUNESday: "Lost You" by Zeds Dead

Fun fact: I work within earshot of a professional choreographer and dancer. As a super fit person and really clean eater, she's been a great sounding board for thoughts on nutrition and strength training; however, none of her dance skills have rubbed off on her coworker. I've been labeled a lost cause.

Wild Pig Chase Trail Run: The 2014 Recap

Recent races keep bringing me back to the Westbank weekend after weekend. Saturday's Wild Pig Chase Trail Run took runners off the concrete and on to the dirt paths of the Woodlands Conservancy in Belle Chasse.

BREAKING: Big Easy Running Festival

Yesterday I hit the gym for a lunchtime swim, and returned to my locker expecting a mobile inbox full of spam and work emails. While I was mostly right, I also found one of the most exciting press releases to cross my desk in months. It was the announcement for the inaugural Big Easy Running Festival this November!

Bridgeman104 Duathlon: The 2014 Recap

After 5 years of marathoning, I decided that I wanted to tackle new challenges in 2014. There was a burning desire to get out of a rut and try another discipline that compliments my running addiction. This past Sunday, I added cycling to my race resume by participating in the Bridgeman104 Duathlon.

TUNESday: "Calling All Hearts" by DJ Cassidy

Once again it's time for a TUNESday music feature, and this week's selection continues the trend of DJ's going mainstream. They're stepping out of the booth and taking center stage, crossing over from re-mixing hits of pop artists and transforming into acts capable of putting out an album full of their own hits. With the recent success of Calvin Harris, Tiƫsto, and others, it's a trend that I'm sure will continue.

Crescent Connection Bridge Run: The 2014 Recap

Race organizers from the Crescent Connection Bridge Run offered me a free race entry for this year's event, and all they asked was that I write a blog recap. As always, my thoughts on the race are not biased in any way. Let's keep it between us that I would have written a recap regardless; but with all the races I've been doing lately, a free entry is always appreciated!

Spring NOLA Beer Mile: The 2014 Recap

While not an officially sanctioned race, the Beer Mile competitions in New Orleans have some of the most heated match-ups of the year. Last night was the spring installment of the semi-annual event that routinely takes place at Pontiff Playground in Metairie.

TUNESday: "Under The Lights" by Cassio Monroe

I've been spending more time in the gym lately, trying to up my weight training and regularly swimming. While I usually do my best to get in and get out as quickly as possible, I can honestly say that the venue has become one of the most interesting places for me to people-watch.

June 2014 Preview

Rain over the past week has kept temperatures uncharacteristically low in south Louisiana. Fear not, because we'll be creeping in to the 90s before you know it. However, with proper conditioning, tackling the summer heat is easy enough. You'll have to suffer through some slow muggy runs through June, but it'll be worth it when you break the barrier and get accustomed to the summer sizzle. Just be sure to stay hydrated during every workout!
