April 2015 Preview

Since January, I've been running bi-weekly with the New Orleans Track Club's 10K training program, helping coach and encourage participants who are well on their way to completing their first 10K at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic. Look for us in bright yellow singlets as you run from the Superdome to City Park, and congratulate the team on all the hard work they've put in the past several months!

Prepping For The CCC10K

With the coming three day weekend, I'm sure you're already on the downhill slide in to holiday mode. However, you've got a little prep to do before the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10K on Saturday morning.

March 2015 Preview

New Orleans has suffered unbearable temperatures since Mardi Gras, with multiple days having highs that don't climb out of the 40's. I'm not complaining, as I much prefer the cold over the summer heat; however, it's been hard for me to get motivated in the new year. After finishing three and a half marathons in January, getting back in to a groove post-recovery has been near impossible. Fortunately, racing in the Crescent City quickly picks up speed as we hop in to spring.

"Run For It!" With The CCC10K

The tradition of running the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10K is meaningful to people throughout the region for many reasons; however, it's most meaningful to the charities that benefit from its annual Saturday foray on the streets of NOLA. Non-profits that would like to apply to be a partner for the 2015 race, your deadline was just extended until August 15th.

Bridging The Gap

Since 1958, the Crescent City Connection has serviced vehicular traffic from the Westbank to the Eastbank of the Mississippi River in New Orleans. This weekend, there are two opportunities for athletes to take in the New Orleans skyline from the precipice of the bridge more than 300 feet up in the air.

Crescent City Classic 10K: The 2014 Recap

New Orleanians couldn’t have asked for better conditions during the 36th Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10K. On Saturday morning, nearly 25,000 runners made the annual pilgrimage from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to City Park under clear blue skies and temperatures that stayed in the low 60’s. The beautiful spring day in the Big Easy set the scene for fast race times and lots of fun at the post race party.

Typically I like to crank out a race recap the Monday after an event, but this one took some time. There's so much I want to say, since I enjoyed the run and the environment so much. Be sure to comment at the end of this post with your race experiences and feedback!

CCC10K Fast Facts

Last year we saw a major shakeup with the Allstate Sugar Bowl Crescent City Classic 10K. While it was the second year with a new title sponsor and new race ownership, it was the first year of a brand new course and near-flawless corralling system at the start. For the 2014 installment, things have evolved further. As the race grows, things are changing to make this the best 10K in the south.

Crescent City Fall Classic 5K Preview

This Saturday is the Crescent City Fall Classic 5K in City Park. I'm not sure if you're aware of its importance on the New Orleans race calendar. The results of this race impact the training of runners for the next six months. It gives them motivation and goals for the NOLA racing crown jewel in spring, The Crescent City Classic 10K.
