TUNESday: "Love Runs Out" by OneRepublic

The return from the long holiday weekend brought runners yet ANOTHER announcement from runDisney. A long anticipated Star Wars Half Marathon was confirmed for January 15-18, 2015 in Disneyland of Anaheim, California. It certainly isn't schedule for a time long ago or in a galaxy far, far away.

Louisiana Blue Crab Run: The 2014 Recap

Having a race on Friday night threw off my entire weekend routine, but I still participated in the Louisiana Blue Crab Run this past Saturday morning. Fortunately, the race had a later start than a typical weekend event, so I was able to recover properly from the Barathon. This year's Blue Crab Run made the move across the lake, from the Northshore to the Kenner lakefront. This move made the race much more accessible to me, and lessened the likelihood of being lulled back to sleep by the Causeway Bridge.

Tchoupitoulas Barathon: The 2014 Recap

6 Miles. 6 Bars. 6 Beers. Simple enough, right? That's the premise behind the annual Tchoupitoulas Barathon, which takes participants throughout Uptown New Orleans one bar (and beer) at a time. This past Friday evening, nearly a thousand New Orleanians gathered to take on the challenge, and while I thought it sounded like an easy undertaking, I was proven horribly wrong.

TUNESday: "Boom Clap" by Charli XCX

Last week I had the opportunity to attend a special advance screening of the movie "The Fault in Our Stars." Based on a novel published in 2012, the story explores the relationship between two teenage cancer patients as they come to terms with love and their own vulnerability.

GOTR Spring 5K: The 2014 Recap

I don't typically mix business with pleasure. Running is my escape from the day-to-day routine of the office; however, one of the best parts of the company I work for is that we're very involved in the community and support numerous non-profit organizations. One of those organizations is Girls on the Run New Orleans, a youth empowerment group that "inspires girls to be joyful, healthy and confident" while training for a 5K. This past Saturday, GOTR NOLA held their annual Spring 5K and I was thrilled to be invited to participate.

TUNESday: "BodyPump 89" by Various Artists

My TUNESday post is delayed by a day this week, and for the first time it was intentional tardiness. I wanted to wait until after going to the gym during yesterday's lunch. As I alluded to in a previous post, I've mixed up my routine lately and incorporated swimming and weights  with my running schedule. Yesterday was one of those weight days, and am really liking the workout I've selected.

Huey P. Long Bridge Run: The 2014 Recap

Friday night was the annual Zoo-To-Do event at the Audubon Zoo, and an evening full of restaurant tastings and open bars could have prevented me from waking up early Saturday morning to participate in the Huey P. Long Bridge Run. However, knowing my limitations allowed me to participate in both of these great events!

TUNESday: "I Want It All" by Karmin

Last week, the New Orleans Track Club posed a question on its Facebook page asking followers what types of technology have helped them "advance and stay motivated" during their training. It's a great question that shows how digital applications can enhance a sport that used to be as simple as lacing up a pair of shoes and walking outside.

May 2014 Preview

The month of May is one of my favorites, thanks to the occurrence of Zoo-To-Do, Mothers' Day, graduations, Cinco De Mayo, Memorial Day, and the New Orleans Wine and Food Festival. These holidays and celebrations bring together the things I enjoy the most, food, family, drink, and fun. This month, there's something to look forward to at the end of every week!
